
Vijayawada: Two persons fell prey to crypto fraud in separate cases in Guntur. In the first instance, a person was lured by a social media post urging people to invest in cryptocurrencies to earn rewards and foreign trips and bringing new members into the scheme, which is multi-level marketing racket and is banned in India.
According to the FIR, the woman invested 2.30 lakh in four installments and when she attempted to withdraw the money, the link and the website were disabled. The woman later realized she was deceived and lodged a police complaint.
In the other incident, the victim received a phone call from an unknown person who convinced him to click on a link and pay an amount to receive double the amount by investing in Bitcoin.
The victim, who runs a tyres business, received a link regarding investment in Bitcoins. After he clicked on the link, a person called him over the phone and convinced him that by investing money one could get lakhs in returns. The victim paid 53,788 and later realised he was deceived and lodged a complaint.
Two separate cases were registered and investigation is underway.
